Is a Spring Replacement or Repair something a homeowner can do?

We do not recommend that you change your own spring in your garage door. Garage Door springs are more complicated than you would expect. If you have all the manufactures documentation for your equipment and fully understand how the spring works you may be able to replace it yourself. However, a small error can result in extensive damage to your door and injury. Spring replacement is not expensive. Trust the experts at Texas Overhead Door to repair your door quickly and inexpensively.

How often should I have my Garage Door Serviced?

We recommend that you have your door and opener serivced once a year. Our annual preventative service includes checking the aligment of the track that could shift as a result of the home shifting or settling, checking all the parts that are prone to wearing out or loosening such as rollers, hinges and fasteners, and a full safety inspection to ensure your family does not have to worry.

How long should a standard Garage Door Spring last?

Standard garage door springs usually last 5-7 years. Texas Overhead Door also offers springs that are engineered to last much longer. Contact us for a free estimate or more information about the types of springs we install. You may even want to consider a new door with a lifetime warranty on the spring system.

If my spring is broken on my garage door, will the door opener lift it?

Your door may lift if it is non-insulated, light weight and a single steel garage door but it is highly unlikely and will most likely ruin the door. Do not attempt to open the door if the spring in your garage door is broken or even improperly adjusted. Attempting to operate a door with a broken spring usually ruins your door sections and your garage door opener. Call Texas Overhead Door and schedule a service call right away.

What sizes do garage doors come in?

Garage doors for your home and small wood frame workshops come in standard sizes of one foot increments of 8’, 9’, 10’, 12’, 14’, 16’, 18’, and even 20’ wide. Limitations on width are usually due to the quality of the materials used to build the door, and cosmetic restraints. The height of the door can also vary. Although standard heights are 7’ and 8’, heights can be as short as 6’6” and can increase usually in 3” increments depending on the manufacturer and the model door selected. Remember when speaking of door sizes, the garage door industry calls out the width first and then the height. Example 16 x 7, the width is 16’0” and the height is 7’0”.

It doesn't matter what size your door is or needs to be, we can custom fit any garage door for your needs.

Can I paint my garage door?

Absolutely, you can paint your garage door. My wife just backed into my garage door. Can you straighten it out or should I divorce my wife?

Once a garage door section is bent, it is only a matter of before it will not hold it's shape. Shop around! Sometimes is more cost effective to replace to the entire garage door than to just replace the section. As far as divorcing your wife, we recommend replacing the garage door: it's much cheaper.

How long does it take for you to replace my garage door?

Every garage door replacement job has it's own unique requirements. Most experienced garage door installers should be able to remove a single door in 15 minutes and a large double door could take as much as 20 minutes, maybe longer if a door was inoperable or if the garage door has been painted to excess and bolt removal becomes an issue. Installation of a new garage door should take a qualified door technician less than one hour on a single door and less than 1 1/2 hours on a double door.

Which type of opener is best? Belt, Chain, or Screw Drive

We highly recommend the belt drive opener. This design is the quietest and has the best warranties of the 3 designs. The belt drive openers are also offered with more features such as smart wall panels and battery back up systems.

What size motor do I need in my opener?

Why won’t my door opener work with my new car/truck?

There are several reasons why it won't work with your car or truck. The first thing you need to do is consider the frequency of your transmitter. The frequency on some cars and trucks vary, though for older models, it needs to be in the 300 Mhz range, while on new cars, a 400 Mhz range would be more likely to work. The change is due to improvements in the Homelink system that is the operating system for these cars.
